Situated since 1984 on the extensive Peover Estate, as the name suggests the Cheshire Game and Angling Fair promotes shooting (largely through crowd-pleasing displays by ‘gundogs’) and hunting (through parades of hounds). A full page on the Fair’s website is dedicated to the Cheshire Forest Hunt which notes that the Hunt “has always been one of the very few private packs in the UK whereby there is no committee, and the Masters are the sole managers of the Hunt and its affairs.” Why such a focus on the Cheshire Forest? Perhaps because – despite the story on the Fair’s website – up until December 2019 when he resigned, Henry Brooks was one of its Directors.
