While local residents tell us that there are beautiful woodlands, hedges and verges with very little wildlife living in them, Yattendon Estate’s website says it is “a diverse farming and property business situated in the heart of West Berkshire, covering over 9,000 acres of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” (which is now known as the North Wessex Downs National Landscape). They say they “strongly value our traditional ethos and sense of community”, which is often ‘code’ for supporting hunting and/or shooting. Indeed under ‘Sporting‘ the estate notes that it offers “the country sportsman an excellent range of sporting activities conveniently situated only one hour from London” alongside an image of a countrywoman holding a fish and an image of what is likely to be the Kimblewick Hunt (based on 2019 reports by Hertfordshire Hunt Sabs and Guildford Hunt Sabs of meets at Yattendon Court).
