“The Aberlour Hotel is a lovely family run hotel, situated in the heart of Scotland’s Malt Whisky Country…Family and Dog Friendly, there is a varied menu serving fresh home cooked food using the finest local produce.” Here’s a slightly unusual listing, because for all intents and purposes, the Aberlour doesn’t really seem to have anything to do with shooting (or hunting) at all. There’s nothing on the homepage, no shooting images in the Gallery, yet click on Local Area and under a header image of the Spey and blurb that says”The picturesque Speyside area show cases amazing scenery and award winning whisky and much much more” is a rather perfunctory sentence about a gun cabinet and the dates when the law says it’s okay to go out and shoot birds in Scotland. It’s all a bit half-hearted, like the Hotel doesn’t want to miss out but doesn’t want to get too involved either. Just another example, perhaps, of how normalised and embedded the ‘Come to Scotland and kill things’ message has become these days that the Aberlour feels ‘obliged’ to join in…
