Set in the picturesque village of Hardington, The Royal Oak (known as Sonny’s locally) is the former farmhouse of the pub’s namesake, Sonny White. The pub is situated on the dairy farm, which is still operated today by the White family. Traditionally there has been a clear link between hunts and farmers (hunts need land, farmers – who have land – haven’t tended to have a high opinion of foxes), which perhaps explains why the pub hosted the Cattistock Hunt on Boxing Day 2023.
