Describing itself as ‘Somerset’s Other Festival’, the Sand Cider website says “Our 12th annual family-friendly music & arts micro-festival is nestled in our beautiful orchard overlooking Tealham Moor and Glastonbury Tor!” Hosted on Ashgrove Farm, the Festival is owned and organised by Toby Lee of Ashgrove Farm Produce Ltd. Local hunt sabs will recognise that name: Mr Lee was charged and acquitted of illegal hunting in 2014 when a whipper-in with the former Weston and Banwell Harriers (packs in this part of the world are folding into each other at dizzying pace and The West Somerset Vale/Weston and Banwell Harriers have – as of mid-2025 – merged with the Taunton Vale Harriers to become the Vale of Taunton & Banwell Harriers). His affiliations didn’t end back then: Mendip Hunt Sabs found the Weston and Banwell Harriers at the farm in November 2024, saying the hunt “assembled on a murky morning in Mudgley for a grim day out terrorising foxes from their meet at Ash Grove Farm. They clearly enjoyed a lot of tipple before setting off, as the stench of booze radiated from some of the lads who decided to hassle sabs during the day.” Music fans heading to the festival might want to ask the organiser just how deep his support for fox hunting runs…
