Lllanforda describes itself as “For people looking for top class shooting on traditional estates, based on the stunning Shropshire Welsh Border.” In fact, the business perfectly encapsulates exactly why activists like us say that shooting is an industry that uses hyperbole, alcohol, and detachment to sell its products (live birds) to a generation of (largely) men who don’t see killing live animals as any different to playing golf. They call themselves a ‘sporting agency’, their Gallery is full of images of bottles of booze and people striking poses as they kill birds, and the contact page gives the number for their ‘Leisure Development Coordinator’. It is bewildering to many of us that in the midst of a biodiversity crisis and climate emergency the shooting industry is allowed to continue burbling on about sport and tradition and to pepper the environment with non-native pheasants and lead shot. Modern Britain as seen through the dead eyes of the shooting industry, don’t you just love it…
