The Llanarth Estate is privately owned and sits between Abergavenny and Monmouth close to the Black Mountains and the Brecon Beacons National Park. It has over 100 residential, 5 farms and many small holdings as well as several commercial spaces on its books. On the homepage under ‘Diversity’ the website for the estate says: “The Estate has approx. 4000 acres…Woodlands and forests, public footpaths and bridalways [sic], fishing and we have a shoot season every Autumn/Winter on the Estate.” Further searching reveals that (at least up until recently), “the Estate’s woodlands and general landscape have been laid out for generations with shooting interests in mind…Days are rarely available as the shoot is predominantly private shooting by invitation…Guns are expected to conduct themselves in a gentlemanly and sporting manner…” The ‘gentlemanly’ way to put holes into birds is not – of course – described…
