Hurtigruten Expeditions (London)

“The Hurtigruten Difference…Travel like a local as we welcome you to our home…Sustaining Norway’s coastal communities for generations…Trusted since 1893…” Trusted since 1893, maybe, but that was trust broken when Hartigruten took the inexplicable decision to partner with the Countryside Alliance (CA) – “a campaigning organisation for field sports including hunting, shooting, fishing”, which was formed in 1997 from the British Field Sports Society, the Countryside Business Group, and the Countryside Movement, and developed to repeal the Hunting Act. It is an organisation which relentlessly smears hunt saboteurs and monitors and whose members and senior staff have relentlessly trolled pro-wildlife activists and nationally important broadcasters like Chris Packham (see for example How to deal with a problem like Chris Packham). Hurtigruten (which has struggled financially since the pandemic) is “offering [CA] supporters an additional 5% off any HX cruise. Additionally, 10% of each booking will be donated to The Countryside Alliance Foundation, aiding efforts to support and protect rural communities and the rural way of life.” In other words, Hurtigruten is helping support a minority organisation which represents a fraction of people who live in the countryside and advocates for the exploitation of wildlife across the UK. How about discounts for the millions of people who don’t harm wildlife, Hurtigruten? This is a shameful decision that will not go down well…
