Held at Chepstow Racecourse, the 2025 Chepstow Show says on its website, “A full programme of events in the Main Ring will feature the Come Bye sheepdog display, Usk Valley Working Gun Dogs, South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and a Carriage Driving Display. There will be the traditional parades of livestock and vintage vehicles.” Oh, and because they forgot to mention it – even though they controversially host hunts every year  – a parade by both the hare-hunting Wollaston Bassetts and the Curre and Llangibby, a fox hunt based close to Chepstow that has featured on Protect the Wild numerous times thanks to the efforts of a small group of local monitors. The importance of shows like this to hunting was proved when after one show was disrupted by kennel cough, the Countryside Alliance Hunting Facebook feed posted “The West of England Hound Show is one of the highlights of the summer hunting calendar and we hope that the hunting community will continue to support the show this year before both Dunster and Honiton return to their full glory in 2026.” The Chepstow Show will know this, and it’s a shame it persists in stubbornly promoting hunting to its visitors…
