Listed in the ‘voted for by the shooting community’ Good Shoot Hotel Guide Awards 2023, which ‘seek to honour those pubs and hotels that are particularly well suited to hosting teams of guns’, according to hunting and shooting website Scribehound, the Ballathie County House Hotel only managed ‘runner up’ in the Scotland category – a step up perhaps from a decade ago when it was just Highly Recommended in the ‘Good Shoot Hotel Awards’ 2014. On its own ‘Shooting’ section, (brazenly listed under ‘Play’) the Hotel makes the bewildering statement that “You will find some of Scotland’s most beautiful scenery in Perthshire and the surrounding area and your shoot will bring you even closer to nature”. Closer? By killing the wildlife in it perhaps…?
