Home to the Percys, and the current Duke of Northumberland, “The second largest inhabited castle in the UK, Alnwick has served as a military outpost, a teaching college, a refuge for evacuees, a film set [it was the backdrop for parts of the first two Harry Potter films], and not least as a family home.” Oddly the website makes no mention of the Percy Hunt whose hounds belong to the Duke, whose Master is listed as Lady Victoria Percy (daughter of the 10th Duke), which has its kennels close to the Castle (in Cannongate), and which routinely meets there. No mention either of the numerous grouse moors in England and Scotland the wider Percy family owns. In our experience hunt owners are proud of their ‘traditions’ and shooting estates love to advertise the birds tourists can kill on their land – just maybe don’t mention either to the young ‘Potterheads’ who are keeping the money flowing in…
