Situated in the Cranborne Chase AONB (now rebranded as the Cranborne Chase Living Landscape), JM Stratton’s strives to manage their land with a “focus on sustainability and circularity”, the business saying that it “has a diversified range of other enterprises and activities.” Those ‘enterprises’ include a distinctly unsustainable and non-circular pheasant and partridge shoot, which relies on a constant flow of intensively-reared non-native birds being released into the countryside for people to kill. They may say the right things, but for all the ‘green’ words on their website, Strattons is also just yet another bird shooting venue. A supporter told us that “The surrounding area is packed with stocked partridge and pheasants which run across the roads littering them with bodies”, and an Instagram post from last year summarised Stratton’s disconnected attitude nicely: “End of season shoot day, with all the farm staff joining the game keepers for a proper bang up. Great weather, good company and plenty of birds made this a really good end of season final.”
