“A historic country pub and restaurant situated in 6 acres of wonderful rural countryside within the small village of Whiston…a popular haunt for walkers, cyclists, real ale enthusiasts and families looking for a relaxing drink and locally sourced home cooked food.” Oddly, the Swan’s website doesn’t include fox hunters on that list – strange given that according to Locals Opposed to the Albrighton and Woodland Hunt, the pub is “a long-standing meeting point” for the Albrighton and Woodland Hunt and that a fundraiser for the Hunt in July 2025 began with yet another meet there. Locals Opposed to the Albrighton and Woodland Hunt go on to say that “At recent events the Albrighton have been demanding cash only from those who attend, which makes you wonder how much of this money they’re actually declaring? Any money given to them is used to fund their illegal hunting and enables them to continue killing foxes and terrorising local communities. They are a particularly violent hunt with whipper in Phillipa Ward recently pleading guilty to assaulting a hunt monitor and huntsman Paul Larby in court for the same incident in October.” The Swan might want to remember the old saying which goes, ‘lie down with dogs, get up with fleas’…
