Home of the ‘happy carrot’, “MH Poskitt is a family owned farming business…specializing in the growing of root vegetables for leading supermarkets.” Poskitts produces ‘over 50000 tonnes of carrots every year’, selling them to supermarkets like Asda across the UK. Its Managing Director is Guy Poskitt (who still uses a 2012 image of himself on the company’s website). He is perhaps a little less hands-on than he used to be when he won ‘Farmer of the Year’ well over a decade ago, as he is a very active Hunt Master with the notorious Holderness Hunt. Hull Wildlife Protectors, who have done so much to monitor the criminal behaviour of the Holderness over the years, state that “he (and his partner Sally Rix, of Rix Fuel Services)  is rarely not in attendance, maybe when he goes on holiday or is invited to the rugby he won’t be out. But aside from that, we see him more often than we don’t see him and when we don’t we notice.” When he is not with the Holderness, Guy Poskitt and Sally Rix are often to be found with North Yorkshire’s equally notorious Middleton Hunt. Odd to think that innocently buying carrots could be enabling a die-hard hunter to spend so much time in the saddle, but then that’s why we created this website…
