Atholl Arms Hotel (Perthshire)

Forget those mountains and heather-clad moors there are apparently “few more imposing sights in the Scottish Highlands than the superb façade and highland grandeur of the Atholl Arms Hotel in Blair Atholl”! Wow. The Blair Atholl is “A really traditional Scottish highland hotel, big on heritage and on hospitality.” Ah, now we get to the heart of the offer, because we have come to associate that word ‘traditional’ with hunting and shooting and – once again – we are proved correct. Forget the weekend breaks, the weddings, the corporate get togethers etc where the Blair Atholl “really come into our own” is selling wildlife to shooters. Hidden away (in that it’s really not an easy page to find) is a section dedicated to Shooting and Fishing where customers are assured that the Blair “is your premier highland hotel for the very best shooting, stalking and hunting in Scotland” (seems to us they are not alone in making that claim) and that “you can shoot something in Scotland 365 days a year”. Everything from deer to “unbelievable goose shooting”. Sadly, it’s all too believable in fact…
