Castle Cary Rugby Football Club became independent in 1998 and “…since then the Club has gone from strength to strength and is widely regarded as one of the friendliest and best-run in Somerset.” Which makes a decision to host a Boxing Day meet of one of the most notorious hunts in the country – the Blackmore and Sparkford Vale (BSV) – baffling. The club hosted the BSV in 2023 and as of September 2024 plans to do so again. Protests outside the Club were organised in 2023, and the attached image was provided for us to use. Perhaps Castle Cary Rugby Club are unaware of what the BSV are like? To quote an Action Against Foxhunting post from August 2024 “The BSV [is] one of the most violent and criminal hunts in the country, with numerous incidents to their name – including the killing of a fox featured on Channel 4 in January [2024]. Only last Wednesday [late August 2024], they were expected in court to answer charges, but didn’t show up. They were displaying their hounds at the Gillingham and Shaftesbury Agricultural Show instead.” We have added links to articles of our own below.
