Petworth is a “magnificent 17th-century house displaying one of the finest art collections in the care of the National Trust, nestled in a 700-acre deer park.” The National Trust lists a whole range of  ‘Highlights’ and ‘Things to Do’ at Petworth – everything from exploring the deer park to shopping in the ‘Servant’s Quarters’ of Petworth House, but oddly they neglect to point visitors towards the kennels of the Chiddingfold, Leconfield & Cowdray Hunt whose hounds are kept in Petworth Park. In a 2013 article in Sussex Life then Master of Foxhounds  Robin Muir gushed, “Our kennels remain some of the finest in the country…They are in the stunning Petworth Park and the Egremont family have been incredibly supportive to the hunt. Hounds have been kennelled there since the 18th century.” The current Lord and Lady Egremont “continue a tradition of unbroken occupancy at Petworth House today” and own much of Petworth under the banner of the Egremont Estates. The Hunt still meets at Petworth, so that’s not the only tradition the Egremonts appear keen to uphold…
