Situated in the Cotswolds, the Castle’s website says “The Berkeley family welcome you to Berkeley Castle – their ancient fortress home where they have lived since their ancestor, Robert Fitzharding, completed the Keep in the late 12th Century.” The Berkeley family also of course welcome the eponymous Berkeley Hunt, which is registered at the Castle and which note on their website that “The Fifth Earl of Berkeley could hunt his hounds from Berkeley Castle to Berkeley Square in London and had six kennels along the route.” These days the hunt is far less ‘grand’ but a typical story of a day out with the Berkeley can be found courtesy of the Mendip Hunt Sabs.
