Listed as one of the ‘top boutique hotels in the world’, The Newt in Somerset (and the Emily Estate which owns it and which is run out of The Newt) has been the subject of a Protect the Wild campaign asking that the notorious Blackmore and Sparkford Vale Hunt be banned from meeting on its land. The BSV has built up a substantial portfolio of lawbreaking and violence, and after being filmed illegally killing a fox in December 2023 (which was featured on Channel 4 News) was ‘sanctioned’ by hunting’s ineffective ‘ruling group’, the BHSA (essentially a lobbying group for hunting). Members of the BSV have convictions for criminal damage and assaults on monitors and hunt sabs. The hotel has refused to address our evidence and has stopped responding to our requests.
