Billed as one of the largest ‘gamebird’ breeding ‘farm’s in the country, Ashley Game Farm says on its website that “Our company is one of the few remaining traditional game bird breeding farms left in the country.” That ‘tradition’ (which certainly mirrors one kept alive on some shooting estates) includes the casual retention and use of banned poisons. In July 2024, following the discovery of a poisoned Buzzard and subsequent police/RSPB investigations, the ‘farm’ and its Director Christopher Hodgson were found guilty of numerous offences involving such beloved shooting industry favourites as the banned insecticide Carbofuran and the widely-misused rodenticide Difenacoum. The ‘farm’ was ordered to pay £40,000 in fines and Hodgson was fined £1,500.
