According to its website, the inn is “nestled at the foot of the Quantocks in an idyllic location in the village of Bicknoller.” Bicknoller? Ah, yes, where the infamous Quantock Staghounds (QSH) terrorised a local family by rampaging across their garden and manhandling a stag seeking refuge there before shooting the poor animal just outside the boundary of the family home. What has this to do with the Inn? It hosts meets for the QSH. Indeed if you look in the ‘Gallery’ section of the website you’ll find a rather peculiar rain-spattered image of the hounds spilling across the self-described ‘lovely cobblestone courtyard’ to serve as a reminder.
