Woods “offers everything from a hand-built, rustic interior right the way through to a continentally inspired menu and an award-winning wine list.” And a warm welcome to local hunts. Woods is where (according to a 2005 article in The Telegraph – so published around the time the hunting ban came into force) “the locals crowd in to drink heavily, smoke freely and talk loudly, almost exclusively about hunting, horses and pick-up trucks. [Owner] Paddy Groves, a former master of the Quantock Staghounds, encourages them to give cry.” Woods still hosts hunt meets, and Mr Groves is also owner of Northcombe Camping Barns, which is located on the Groves’ farm.
