“WhichCottage.com leads you to luxury holiday cottages in England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales…You can see which cottages are available when you want to go; which cottages take pets or have disabled access, swimming pools, tennis courts, hot tubs, open fires, are close to golf courses, beaches, lakes for sailing, roads for cycling, birdwatching or walking holiday areas etc.” The Which Cottage Scotland website offers more of the same – except as we’ve repeatedly found, there is a substantial number of estates, service providers, retailers, and rental agents who are looking with greed-filled eyes at the gun-carrying tourist, selling a message that Scotland’s landscapes and wildlife are there for one thing and one thing only: shooting dead birds and mammals. And predictably Which Cottage Scotland would like their slice of the pie, thanks very much. Under ‘Sporting Events‘ (yes, sporting events) they say that “Scotland offers some of the finest country sports in the world and the sporting estates of Scotland have always attracted visitors from all over the world who want to partake in hunting / shooting for game birds (either walked up or driven) such as pheasant, grouse, partridge, woodcock and snipe. There are unrivalled hunting experiences in breathtaking terrain in all areas of Scotland” etc etc. In fact, if you knew where to look you can find a whole page describing ‘Shooting Holidays‘ which makes all this blood and mayhem sound so depressingly normal, doesn’t it…
