According to its Facebook page, Walsh’s Bar is a “Beautiful Bar & Restaurant situated in the picturesque village of Woodford in Co. Galway.” Walsh’s is known for the owner’s support for fox hunting (which is still – shamefully – legal in Eire, despite a RED C opinion poll, commissioned by the Irish Council Against Blood Sports, showing that a 77% majority agree that the government should ban it). According to a report in the Irish Field, Declan Walsh, the owner of Walsh’s Bar, has in the past “hunted with Gerry Daniels, the father of international event rider Cathal Daniels”. The 23 December 2025 report focused on a recent Grallagh Harriers fox hunt meet “at Declan Walsh’s old-world pub”. After terrorising the local wildlife, hunters “hacked back towards the village and drew at the back of the school, where they had some nice walls to jump into pub owner Declan Walsh’s farm”. After the hunt, “Declan Walsh had soup and sandwiches ready for the followers and a well-stoked open fire”.
