“With friendly staff and a comfortable atmosphere, we believe we’re the perfect place to go when you need to unwind and enjoy a quiet drink with family and friends.” Not when the Swan is hosting the Radnor and West Hereford Hunt which they do every New Year, though. There’s nothing ‘quiet’ or relaxing about a group of hunters and their hounds meeting in a pub car park before going off to terrorise the local wildlife – to quote Herefordshire Hunt Sabs, “One fox ran right past sabs (unfortunately also in clear view of car supporters), who were still on the road. Sabs climbed into a field to get on the line of that fox, only to see a second fox fleeing north from Bidney Farm. Hounds were still hunting this fox, but sabs rated them and turned them back to huntsman Shaun Marles. Without the presence of sabs one or both of these foxes would have been hunted and killed.” It’s a shame that venues that host hunts don’t seem to understand what they are enabling – or do understand and simply don’t care…
