Described on its website as ‘The Perfect Cheshire Pub For Shooting Parties‘, Tarporley’s The Swan wonders aloud about what might make “the perfect pub in Cheshire for welcoming shooting parties looking for a place to stay”? The usual stuff follows about how The Swan offers ‘great rooms’ and a convenient location for lots of shooting opportunities with ‘access to motorway networks or trains for those coming from further afield to enjoy the shooting in the area” (who wants to travel to kill wildlife if it isn’t easy?), but what sets this place apart, apparently, is the ‘warm and welcoming atmosphere’. In other words, full enablement is provided…On top of that, The Swan is a long-standing supporter of the Cheshire Hunt: they have a hunt room and the Cheshire hold their official meetings in it (handily it doubles as a wedding venue: one of the Cheshire’s main supporters held their wedding in that very same room). In November 2024 The Swan hosted a meeting of the ‘Young Thrusters’ – a juvenile (and double-entendre laden) hunting term referring to someone who keeps at the front of the field.
