“Nestled in an area of outstanding natural beauty, overlooking Kirkham Abbey…lucky to be situated in an area with beautiful picturesque views…Children & Dogs are more than welcome as long as they are accompanied by equally well-behaved adults!” Hmm. ‘Well-behaved adults’, you say? Oh the irony. York Hunt Sabs found the notorious Middleton Hunt meeting at The Stone Trough in February 2025. As they put it so succinctly: “We are utterly outraged that this establishment would support an illegal foxhunt and go as far as to serve the mounted criminals food and alcohol before their crimes.” Talking of children being welcomed by the pub, in two Facebook posts (Feb 22nd and Feb 23rd) the sabs explained that “The hunt headed off down Centenary Way, Jason O’Donnell encouraging hounds to flush through Kirkham Park wood, with Whips Arthur Irvine and Chris Inman following behind like good little boys.” York Hunt Sabs concluded by saying, “If you like wildlife and are against illegal foxhunting, we’d advise against supporting this establishment.” Comments below the posts were not complimentary about the Stone Trough – yet another venue in North Yorkshire we’ve listed that supports hunting…
