“Welcome to the Pheasant Restaurant located in the heart of Co. Down, Northern Ireland. We offer fine dining in our restaurant…we also have a traditional bar where local visitors mingle and soak up the warm, friendly atmosphere…Our aim is to offer something to satisfy everyone’s tastes.” Sadly ‘everyone’ appears to include fox hunts. Hunting is still (shamefully) legal in Northern Ireland, and if you are pro-wildlife salivating reports in the likes of the Irish Field make for grim reading. Talking of which, according to a 31 January 2025 article in the Irish Field an Iveagh Foxhounds hunt meeting started from The Pheasant. The hunt went on to use 23 hounds to chase foxes. That support for wildlife abuse might explain why the ‘About’ section of The Pheasant’s website states that “We have designed and furnished The Pheasant in a gothic style, including hunting mural art…”. A renovation that deliberately includes ‘hunting art’? Shudder.
