According to a review on TripAdvisor, the Minerstown Tavern is an “Old world pub with stone floors and big traditional fire and a warm welcome from Sean Rogan. A charming little pub which serves a great pint of the Black Stuff. The views from the back of the pub look over the beach and sea towards the Mourne Mountains and Newcastle.” It’s also close to Tyrella where the East Down Foxhounds hold their annual point-to-point (“Tyrella point-to-point is inextricably linked with the East Down Foxhounds who have organised racing at the picturesque seaside venue for a number of decades.”) Shamefully fox hunting is still legal across the whole of Ireland, and while the main interest for most people might be gambling and Guinness, the fact remains that point-to-points are fundraisers for hunts and venues that promote and celebrate them are supporting animal abuse.
