“Meikleour Arms is a unique boutique hotel and restaurant in Perthshire…only a short distance away from Perth, Scone Palace and Dunkeld…Built in 1820, it is owned and run by Meikleour Estate, one of the oldest historical estates in East Scotland.” Yet another business selling Scotland’s wildlife to the gun-carrying tourist – but with a slight twist. Under the typical ‘Things to Do‘ page’ is the following: “Perthshire is a dream come true for fieldsports lovers. We have at your disposal Tayside Police approved gun cabinets, storage for game birds and drying facilities…Although there is no shoot on Meikleour Estate (a personal choice from [sic] our owners), we can arrange all types of pheasant, partridge and duck shooting…We specialise in shooting party lunches.” So, a personal choice not to have the noise, pollution, wildlife crime, and organised killing of a typical shooting estate on their own doorstep, but more than happy to recommend it as long as it’s somewhere else (“we highly recommend our neighbours Murthly & Strathbraan Estates”) and to take the money from luncheoning shooters regardless. So nothing like the virtue signalling the Meikleour’s owners imagine…
