“The Kirkmichael Hotel is a charming Victorian era coaching inn…Our location, on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park, serves as a home base for the outdoors adventurer, the historic explorer and the devotee of peace, beauty and tranquillity alike.” Now that sounds great, but if there is one thing that this website has shown over and over again is that sharing a national park with the ‘outdoor adventurer’ is not going to be a good experience for a ‘devotee of peace, beauty and tranquillity’. That’s because Scotland’s tourist industry includes within ‘outdoors adventurer’ the selfish gun-carrying guests who spend the day blasting away at the national park’s wildlife. The aggressive and percussive blast of the shooter will always shatter the ‘peace’ being sought by the tranquillity seeker. The Kirkmichael Hotel must know that. The addition of ‘countryside sports’ and ‘shooting’ on their ‘Things to Do‘ page just makes their homepage pitch look rather disingenuous…
