Formerly Scotty’s Butchers, the rebranded Herd was taken over just a few weeks ago (as of writing) by a young farming couple who “decided to change careers and start livestock farming…they decided to take on the shop with a mission to promote British produce”. Quoted in the Northumberland Gazette the new owners declared that “There is a war against the government and farmers at the moment and we just want to show that farmers aren’t the enemy.” No, farmers are not ‘the enemy’, but these ones are near to some of the largest shoots in northern England and have hopped on the ‘normalisation of killing birds’ bandwagon by announcing on Facebook “Shoot Days. We’ve got you covered!”, so they’re not someone we’d recognise as friends either…
