“A much loved local pub, motel and restaurant, located in the picturesque village of Haxey, North Lincolnshire. We look forward to welcoming you with a friendly smile, a warm fire, a fabulous selection of ales, wines and drinks, and some hearty and tasty food.” That ‘friendly smile’ was given to the Nottinghamshire-based Grove and Rufford Hunt in February 2025 when they were invited to meet at the pub. The meet was announced in a Facebook post that appears to have been deleted (but widely screenshotted) in which the pub described the Grove and Rufford as a ‘drag hunt’, which is not only wrong but suggests that the pub (or their social media team) know nothing about the realities of hunting at all. Oddly, while the meet disappeared from the pub’s Facebook it was picked up and repeated by the Haxey Parish Council Facebook page. It was still up a few weeks later – we would be very interested to know why the council pushed the meet/what links the councillors have with hunting if anyone has that information…
