“The Dorset Arms is a village pub that combines the proud heritage of the De La Warr family and Buckhurst Park – with our relaxed and welcoming restaurant, bar and garden as well as our rooms that give you a home from home.” Part of the Buckhurst Park wedding venue/shooting estate, The Dorset Arms is promoted on the estate’s website as the ideal accommodation for its wedding clients. Those clients presumably don’t stay in the autumn/winter when the guns are blasting and wine merchants like Corney & Barrow are selling expensive bottles to wash down the pheasants that another set of the Estate’s ‘clients’ will have blasted out of the air that day. Why the Dorset Arms, incidentally? “Part of the historic Buckhurst Estate, this 18th-century alehouse is situated in the outstandingly beautiful Sussex Weald and is named after the Earls and Dukes of Dorset – one-time heads of the Sackville family who share a heritage of ownership with the present Earl De La Warr.”
