“A trackside restaurant and working creamery celebrating the golden age of the Great British railway”, The Creamery is located at Castle Cary railway station and “visitors can expect hearty dishes, grab and go, and a range of traditional soft cheese and yoghurt using fresh milk from the estate’s herd of water buffalo.” Not one for our vegan supporters, but otherwise no problem there, surely? Except that the Creamery is part of the portfolio of The Newt in Somerset. The Newt (and the Emily Estate which owns it and which is run out of The Newt) has been the subject of a Protect the Wild campaign asking that the notorious Blackmore and Sparkford Vale Hunt be banned from meeting on its land. The BSV was filmed illegally killing a fox in December 2023, and members of the BSV have convictions for criminal damage and assaults on monitors and hunt sabs. The hotel has refused to address our evidence and has stopped responding to our requests.
