“A resplendent old hunting lodge on the edge of Dartmoor, offering an idyllic hideaway for lovers of the outdoors.” Dartmoor is one of England’s most hunted and shot over pieces of real estate, so perhaps it comes as no surprise that a pub that promotes the fact that it is an ‘old hunting lodge’ and for ‘lovers of the outdoors’ (which will include ‘countryfolk’ who are armed or looking for foxes or deer) should host a fox hunt. In February 2026, the Burrator hosted the Spooners & West Dartmoor Hunt as reported by Plymouth and West Devon Hunt Saboteurs. Nothing unlawful in that, but the lie that is ‘trail hunting’ has been exposed more and more and we have to question why any pub would want to be linked with it…
