“Dating back to the mid 17th century and probably much earlier this beautiful riverside inn has been welcoming and refreshing locals and passers-by for centuries. Our aim has been to preserve all its charm, nod nostalgically to the past and remember that proper pubs are always about people and atmosphere.” The Boat is co-owned by shooting advocate Ed Chantler, whose bio on The Boat website says he is “a member of the British Game Alliance [a lobby group which actually changed its name to British Game Assurance in 2021], his love of game birds and promoting it as a delicious, sustainable and healthy food source is a perfect fit for the menu at The Boat. Ed’s loves are sport, food, wine, beer and country pursuits.” Alcohol and killing wildlife – a real ‘man’s man’ in other words…Not only that, but the Boat also supports the notorious Wrexham-based Wynnstay hunt, the pub being a favourite drinking spot for joint masters Harry Wynn and Baily (plus assorted hunt pals). Locals tell us they are regularly seen “in full hunting attire to discuss the day’s killing” as the attached image shows…
