“Nestled on the edge of the beautiful North Pennines, areas of Natural Outstanding beauty…luxury accommodation…famous homemade pies… our traditional coaching Inn offers stunning surroundings and views that go for miles and miles.” Pies appreciated by the Braes of Derwent Hunt, as the hunt met there in November 2024 as reported by Geordie Hunt Sabs who wrote (superbly – in fact the whole report is worth reading) that “The Braes Hunt decided to park themselves barely a whisper away from their kennels, at the Anchor Inn. Classic. At 11 a.m., they’re sipping port and cramming corpse pies into their faces like it’s a Sunday roast at your gran’s.” The kennels really are very close (at Sproats Farm, a field or so from the pub), and according to a review on Trip Advisor the Anchor hosts hunt fundraisers, so chances are that anyone visiting the Anchor will be rubbing shoulders with someone connected with the grumpy pie stuffers…
