Right on the Somerset/Devon border the Anchor Inn is a “Historic pub in Exebridge near Exmoor with a riverside setting and large beer garden. Serving great value family food with beautiful 6 en-suite rooms.” Owned by Greene King, The Anchor Inn has had something of an on-off relationship (mostly very much ‘on’) with the notoriously violent Quantock Staghounds (QSH) for many, many years. In September 2023 the hunt was watched leaving the pub which prompted an email campaign resulting in the Anchor banning the hunt. However, the hunt was using the Anchor again in autumn 2024. A photo was taken of them leaving the car park by a staff member of the League Against Cruel Sports, who then wrote to Greene King drawing the following response from the Operations Director for the southwest: “I have spoken to the independent operator of The Anchor again today as a matter of urgency. In doing so, I have reinforced the position of Greene King that the independent operator should continue to cease the Quantock Staghounds from using The Anchor Inn as a base for their hunt.” The QSH rarely pay any attention to requests – and neither apparently does the ‘independent operator’: the QSH were back at the Anchor again in April 2025, photographed by the North Dorset Hunt Sabs who were called ‘paedos’ by the landlord as he walked in front of their cameras with a baby
