“Exclusive luxury guest accommodation…8 bedrooms catering for parties, holidays, getaways, sporting lodge…award-winning.” Being voted “Best Luxury Sporting Accommodation 2022″ would once have meant running a top hotel in the vicinity of the likes of Old Trafford, Twickenham, Lords, or Murrayfield, but with the normalisation of killing wildlife it now seems to mean “being close to a pheasant shoot”. Hotels that feature light fixtures made up of the antlers of deer on their homepage and whose website (like so many others) can state “Guests can enjoy partridge and pheasant shooting during the season” aren’t ruled out of ‘awards’ on the grounds that they are actually offensive to an awful lot of people, they are given little plaques and celebrated. The Tay House was once a doctor’s surgery. It hosts weddings. And it hangs the heads of dead deer on its walls and flogs birds to shoot. The way Scotland’s tourism trade in the 21st Century is geared around the exploitation of birds and mammals is a shameful thing indeed…
