“Europeโs leading bloodstock auctioneers, Tattersalls has been renowned for its impeccable standards and record-breaking sales throughout its 259 year history.” ‘Bloodstock auctioneer’ is a chilling phrase, and refers to horses that have been specially bred for racing – some of which (ex-National Hunt horses especially) may end up under the arse of a fox hunter. Racing is of course inextricably linked with bloodsports, fox hunts and point-to-point hunt fundraisers. Which presumably explains why a violent and criminal hunt like the Blackmore & Sparkford Vale was able to get a supposedly ‘prestigious’ business like Tattersalls to sponsor the fundraiser they held at Charlton Horethorne in March 2025.
