Sycamore Cottage has just won the “Sykes Gem Awards 2025 Gold winner for Best in Peak District”. The house and the surroundings (on the edge of the Peak District national park) look lovely. Would we stay there, though? No, we wouldn’t, because we’d know (thanks to him trolling Mendip Hunt Sabs on Facebook in December 2025) that the owner, Matthew Elias has rather disturbing (and totally unwarranted) view of wildlife protectors, and that as he took our booking he might perhaps be thinking we display ‘clear paedophile tendencies’ just because we don’t believe the ‘smokescreen’ of so-called trail hunting. Not someone we’d personally want to hand over a large cheque to no matter how lovely the countryside…
