Spicer Manor is a supposedly superior wedding venue “nestled on the edge of the stunning Peak District National Park in Yorkshire.” These places are always ‘nestled’. Copy writers really ought to try harder, but then anyone who comes up with the truly disconnected and emotionally dead “Spicer Manor sits within an area of Yorkshire that is popular for shooting, making it the ideal base for a shooting holiday” to describe a site which wants to attract weddings probably doesn’t spend that much time thinking anyway. The blank-eyed descriptions of local shoots that follow are just as callous and indifferent. An example (amongst many) would be this: “You can shoot at Sycamore every Sunday and when the clocks change, they also offer Tuesday evening shooting…stag and hen parties are welcome.” Yeah, nothing starts married life off better than gunning down some birds. Spicer Manor really has bought into the normalisation of killing wildlife in a big way. Fortunately, there are many (many) alternative venues nearby…
