“Sledmere Estate is apparently “East Yorkshire’s finest country house…Our businesses include residential let properties, hire for weddings and corporate hospitality, special events as well as the day to day running of the Farm Shop, Cafe, Gift Shop, Sledmere Farm Park, Wagoners’ Museum, gardens and the jewel in the crown, Sledmere House.” Owned by the Sykes family since it was built, Sledmere is the current home of Sir Tatton Sykes, 8th Baronet – and is a semi-regular host of the Middleton Hunt. East Yorkshire Coast Hunt Sabs found the Middleton Hunt there in February 2024 and they and York Hunt Sabs found the same hunt there in February 2025. In the latter’s HIT report, York Hunt Sabs summed up how many of us will be feeling: “The hunt took full advantage of Sledmere Estate land today, shame on the estate for allowing and hosting illegal fox hunting and blocked badger setts on their land.” Hosting weddings in the summer, hosting hunting in the winter…shame indeed.
