Pleasington is described as “a rural village set on a hillside above the River Darwen” near Blackburn. The village’s Railway Hotel doesn’t appear to have a working website as of listing. That may be because of reviews like this on Trip Advisor: “This place was absolutely despicable from the moment I walked in, we went with some friends from the rugby club and we will never go again , the food was cold and awful plus they need to learn some manners , rude and arrogant”. Now, we all know to treat bad reviews with a pinch of salt – it could just have been a bad day after all – but ‘rude and arrogant’ does seem to fit in well with a screenshot we were sent of a December 2023 rant the landlord aimed at people who didn’t approve of the hotel hosting the Bury-based Holcombe Hunt – click on the image to see what we mean. A week later it was the turn of Wheelton’s Red Lion Inn to host the Holcombe (where the same pre-General Election 2024 message of ‘Vote Tory to save hunting’ was given from the saddle – sadly for the Holcombe the country wasn’t listening…)
