Priddy Parish Council (Somerset)

According to the Council’s website, “Priddy is a beautiful village in Somerset, England. It is located in the Mendip Hills National Landscape, a few miles northwest of Wells.” Councils might seem beyond the remit of this site but Action Against Foxhunting asked us to list it saying that Priddy Council owns the Green in the village and that “Mendip Farmers Hunt meet on the Green on Boxing Day. Last year, we saw the risk assessment, and then collected evidence on the day to show that they didn’t follow any of it. We submitted it and sent it to the Council. We also spoke at a meeting in October. This year, Priddy Parish Council have decided that they won’t ask the hunt for a risk assessment, or any insurance details. The hunt is a business and is making commercial use of the green. Every other organiser has to book the Green and provide documentation.” Most of us won’t need to choose whether to make use of Priddy Council, but there is no doubt that they fulfil the criterion of ‘supporting hunting with hounds’.
