Part of Powis Castle Estate, The Old Long Mountain is a quintessential Pheasant Shoot.” For all its talk about sustainable and environmental projects and its work with local Wildlife Trusts, Powis Castle Estate also runs a non-sustainable and not environmentally-friendly shoot – something barely mentioned on its public website but described with the usual salivating hyperbole on Cambrian Birds which claims that “The quality of shooting across the estate is without a doubt second to none, and a day at Old Long Mountain must be on every keen shots ‘to do’ list” – in other words, shooters come just to tick off another venue where they get to kill a bird…
