There is next to nothing online about Ned Claffey’s Bar, but a ‘review’ on Restaurant Guru describes it as “a quaint pub and bar…offering a taste of the Irish countryside spirit…While it doesn’t feature extensively in popular restaurant directories, it holds a modest profile on Google, inviting guests seeking an authentic local experience.” Ned’s now has a ‘modest profile’ on bloodbusiness.info thanks to a February 2025 article in the pro-hunt Irish Field relating to the Westmeath Foxhounds. The article stated that at the beginning of a hunt, “followers met first at Ned Claffey’s Bar, where Paul Claffey was dispensing drinks”. The report went on to say that “Paul is also a farmer and the hunt cross his land.” Hunting is still (shamefully) legal across the whole of NI and Eire, and the Irish Field gleefully reports that during this particular hunt foxes were terrorised by the pack of hounds, including one who was chased for over an hour.
