According to the Facebook page of Midlands Pointing, “the Midlands Point to Point Association organises Point to Point horse racing in the Midlands Area.” Point to Points are built around keeping hunts in the public eye. According to the British Horseracing Society, Point-to-Point Steeple Chases are for horses owned and ridden by members of an affiliated Hunt. A fixture can either be arranged by a Hunt or group of Hunts. Hunting’s ‘friendly face’ they often feature a dog show and are recruiting vehicles for hunts. They are often heavily sponsored by hunt-supporting businesses. As Gloucester Races puts it, “the Point-to-Point provides a great opportunity for the hunt to say thank you to the farmers and landowners whose land they cross throughout the year. It’s the hunts way of ‘putting a little bit back’.” The ‘team’ at Midlands Pointing include Chairman, Charlie Moore, a former Army Major and hunter; Anna Saunders who has worked in Point-to-Pointing for a number of years and is secretary to the Quorn Hunt Point-to-Point; and hunting’s go-to photographer Nico Morgan, the Midlands Area Public Relations Officer who writes meeting previews and reports and liaises with the National Press and Go Pointing as well as running the website and social media accounts.
