One of the most confusing websites we have ever come across (and a few months into the bloodbusiness project we have come across a few real clunkers!), the Market Tavern (a former ‘Berni Inn’ pub called The Olde Number 12) appears to be the venue part of the Melton Mowbray Cattle Market and is advertised under the brand name ‘Stockyard’. It seems an unlikely place for the highly self-regarding Belvoir Hunt (“one of the world’s most celebrated foxhunts, and the hounds – owned by the Duke of Rutland – are kenneled at Belvoir Castle”) to hold a fundraiser, but it has been a regular venue for their Christmas Ball and as of writing is advertising another in December 2024… an evening of ‘fun and frolics’ can be yours for the princely sum of £110 – yes, of course ‘hunting’ is the ‘sport’ of the everyman…
